The first key to a successful white paper project is knowing its intended audience. Knowing your audience helps you know what they need. It helps you develop content that appeals to them in the way they need it and in the way they can use it.
The first step is to analyze your audience. This will answer several important questions about them. It will tell you:
- Problems they face
- What information to use
- What proof-points you will need
- Their level of understanding
- Technical jargon you can use
- What solutions will appeal to them
- Their education level
- The budget level
- Their time constraints
- Their job responsibilities
Write a description of your client from the answers you get. Try to get as detailed as you can. You can then write your paper to that very person. You can tailor the white paper in a way that will appeal to them the most- ensuring their needs are met and giving them the information they need to make a decision.
